Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Corruption remains a critical challenge in Nigeria, undermining development, public trust, and institutional efficiency. In Funtua LGA, Katsina State, like in many other regions, corruption affects key areas such as public administration, education, and healthcare. Public Relations (PR) plays a significant role in anti-corruption advocacy by leveraging communication strategies to educate the public, promote transparency, and mobilize citizens to demand accountability.

PR tools such as social media campaigns, community outreach, and collaboration with anti-corruption organizations have been shown to foster awareness and collective action against corruption (Aliyu et al., 2023). This study examines the role of PR in advancing anti-corruption advocacy within Funtua LGA.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite various anti-corruption initiatives, the problem persists in Funtua LGA, primarily due to a lack of awareness, societal tolerance, and limited citizen participation in governance. PR strategies have not been adequately utilized to address these issues, leaving a gap in advocacy efforts. This study aims to explore how PR can be effectively applied to combat corruption in Funtua LGA.
